Mavis Gary is thirty-seven years old, she has no family, sometimes she is incredibly lonely and unhappy, but of course she never wants to admit it to herself. Her marriage did not work out and she had to divorce, left alone with her problems and worries. In order to earn a living, she writes teenage novels about love and children's problems, which are perfectly understood by boys and girls of school age who suffer from undivided relationships. At school, the main character was incredibly popular and enjoyed great success among schoolchildren who chose her as the queen of the ball.

The girl has earned a decent amount of money, she has her own apartment in Minneapolis, an ideal life and a successful career from the outside, but her depressed state cannot let her go in any way. One day she receives a letter from a former lover who decided to invite her to celebrate the child's birthday. Suddenly she begins to remember their long-gone years, and she feels so good that she decides to go to the city of her childhood and try to take the guy away from the family to help him become a happy person.
